Income Quarantining Survey Results March 2008
The Intervention Rollback Action Group1 surveyed 72 people from communities, out stations, town camps and urban areas in the Northern Territory in March 2008. Participants were asked about Northern Territory Emergency Response (NTER) measures and how they were affecting individuals and their families.
Information gathered from the participants raises concerns that some of the NTER measures may be further entrenching poverty and disadvantage for communities and families – and not leading to improvement. In particular, their responses voice that the NTER has created family problems, made it harder for parents to feed and care for children, destroyed independence and set back self real determination for Indigenous peoples.
